Welcome.

Welcome to the Haptics Blog! My name is Antoine Weill-Duflos and I am proud to be a co-editor-in-chief of this blog. Along with my team, I am excited to share with you the latest developments and insights in the field of haptics. Our goal is to provide you with in-depth and informative content that will help you stay up-to-date on the latest trends and advancements in haptics research, technology, and applications. We hope you will enjoy reading and learning from our blog and we look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback.

My Story

I was taken by surprise when the Haptics Club crew approached me in the lobby of the Smart Haptics conference in Seattle and offered me a role as co-editor for the Haptics Blog. I had been an acute follower of the Haptics Blog podcast for a while, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to the community. My journey into the field of haptics was somewhat accidental; it began when I took a class that I thought was about VR, but it turned out to be a haptic class in disguise. It was the moment when I realized the potential of haptic technology, and it picked my interest, and I never left it.

Fuelled by my growing passion for the field, I decided to pursue a Ph.D. in robotics at Sorbonne Université in France. My research focused on creating a haptic microscope, which would allow the user to "feel" the interactions taking place in the micro-world. I developed force sensors and haptic devices that conveyed the sense of touch to the user, enabling them to feel the interactions taking place. My goal was to enhance the user's understanding of the micro-world and its complex force-fields, and to further explore the potential of haptic technology in this field. After this, I moved to McGill University in Canada to pursue a post-doc where I continued to explore the potential of haptic and went deeper into vibrotactile stimulation, wearable and haptic “feetback”…

My journey into the field of haptics has been a rewarding one, not only in terms of my professional development but also in terms of the people I have met along the way. I have been fortunate to participate in initiatives such as Canhaptic, which allowed me to connect with other experts and researchers in the field. And I was lucky enough to be hired as Director of Research and Development for Haply Robotics, where I work with a team of experts to create cutting-edge haptic technology for a wide range of applications.

Building Knowledge

I am excited to be working with Dan Shor as co-editor of the Haptics Blog where we will be curating the best of the knowledge in the haptic community from all different angles. Our goal is to bring together the most innovative research, ideas, and technologies from the field of haptics and share it with our readers. We will be highlighting the latest developments and trends in haptic technology, such as how to create haptic illusions and exploring how the sense of touch is one of the most robust senses. We will also be featuring the work of experts and researchers in the field, providing insight into the latest research and findings in haptic technology, including new applications and potential use cases. Additionally, we will delve into the history of haptic technology and its evolution over time to give a comprehensive perspective on the field. We believe that by bringing together the most cutting-edge information and research from the field of haptics, we can help to further advance the field, bring new insights to the community, and foster new passions among our readers.

Thank you for joining us, welcome !
